What is Myofunctional Therapy

Orofacial myofunctional therapy uses oral exercises and behavior modifications that are designed to strengthen the mouth, lips, face, and tongue. These oral exercises are used to target the orofacial muscles to ensure correct function and natural oral resting posture. This therapy is designed to teach proper nasal breathing, correct resting tongue and mouth posture, and proper swallowing mechanics. Myofunctional therapy encourages your body to rest naturally. This also helps in the coordination of mouth and throat muscles.

Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) occur when the natural development of the facial structure interferes with growth, development. and function. OMDs can cause problems with eating, swallowing, chewing, speaking, and breathing.
